Acento English speaking coach

Make phone calls in English without the dread

Phone calls are harder than talking face to face: no lips to read, no gestures, and details that have to be exactly right. Acento lets you practice the calls you keep putting off, like booking the doctor, the dentist or the bank, until spelling your name and confirming a time feels normal.

Sound familiar?

  • You put off calling the doctor or the bank because you dread the phone.
  • You spell your name or give your number, and they still get it wrong.
  • Without seeing their face, you lose the thread when they speak fast.
  • You hang up not sure what time you actually booked.

Get your details before you call

Each call comes with a made-up card: a name to spell, a date of birth, a phone number and the times you're free. You never share your own information.

Call the receptionist

Choose the doctor, dentist, specialist, school, apartment, DMV, mechanic or bank. The receptionist doesn't know why you're calling until you say, reads each detail back, and offers her own open times, which won't always suit you.

Hear what didn't come through

If a number or letter comes out unclear, she may hear it wrong, just like on a real line. Your review checks every detail she read back against your card and shows what to do next time: spell slower, correct her, or confirm the booking at the end.

At a glance

  • 8 everyday calls: doctor, dentist, specialist, school, apartment, DMV, mechanic, bank
  • Spelling names and giving numbers clearly
  • Details misheard the way a real line mishears them
  • Asking for another time and confirming the booking
  • A review of every detail that came across wrong
  • Harder personal calls too, with family and friends

Questions

Do I use my real name and number?

No. Every call gives you a made-up details card, so you never share your own information.

What if I can't understand the receptionist?

Ask her to repeat or slow down, as you would on a real call. Asking is part of the practice.

Is it free?

The phone calls come with Premium ($9 a month or $69 a year). You can try a free call with the speaking coach first, to hear how a live call works and which sounds to work on.
